Flights, overland routes, getting around locally, and visa requirements for 2026.
Jorge Chávez International Airport (LIM) is the main hub for Peru and one of South America's busiest airports. Direct services from Miami (5.5h), New York (7h), Madrid (11.5h), London (via Madrid), and all major South American cities. LAN/LATAM, Avianca, American, Air Europa, and Iberia are the main carriers.
Uber and Cabify are the recommended options — safe, affordable, and app-tracked. Lima's traffic is among the worst in South America; always allow extra time for journeys across the city. The new Line 2 Metro is under construction but Lima currently lacks a useful metro for tourists.
Most Western passport holders enter Peru visa-free for up to 183 days. No advance visa required. There is a small airport departure tax typically included in international ticket prices.
