The end of the world, the start of an adventure

🎯 Things To Do 🗓️ Itinerary 🏨 Where To Stay

About Patagonia

Patagonia is a vast, wind-swept wilderness at the southern tip of South America, shared between Argentina and Chile. It is a land of staggering contrasts: colossal glaciers calving into turquoise lakes, jagged granite towers piercing cloud-streaked skies, and endless Pampas grasslands roamed by guanacos and condors. For hikers, climbers, and wildlife lovers, it is simply one of the greatest destinations on the planet.

Best Neighbourhoods in Patagonia

Puerto Natales (Chile) W Trek Base $30–150/night

The main gateway to Torres del Paine — hostels, expedition gear shops, and excellent local restaurants. Comfortable and well-organised for trekkers.

In-Park Refugios (W Trek) On the Trail $80–150/night (full board)

Refugio accommodation on the trail includes a dormitory bed, hot shower, dinner, and breakfast. The only way to do the W Trek without carrying a tent.

El Calafate (Argentina) Perito Moreno Base $40–250/night

The gateway to Perito Moreno Glacier and Los Glaciares National Park. More resort-like than Puerto Natales, with better restaurants and a pleasant lakeside walk.

Luxury Lodges (explora / EcoCamp) Premium $400–900/night

All-inclusive wilderness lodges within or adjacent to Torres del Paine offer extraordinary experiences — guided hikes, spectacular food, and views that are simply impossible elsewhere.

Frequently Asked Questions

When is the best time to visit Patagonia? +

November and March are the best months — good weather, 20–30% lower prices than the December–February peak, and manageable crowds. December to February is peak season with the longest days but all refugios booked out months ahead.

How difficult is the W Trek in Torres del Paine? +

The W Trek is classified as moderate to challenging — 5 days, approximately 70km, with significant daily elevation changes. Good cardiovascular fitness is required but no technical climbing. The main challenge is the Patagonian wind, not the terrain.

How far in advance do I need to book the W Trek? +

For December to February peak season, book refugios and campsites 6–12 months ahead — they sell out completely. For November or March, 2–3 months is usually sufficient.

How do I get to Torres del Paine National Park? +

Fly to Punta Arenas (from Santiago, 4 hours) then take a bus to Puerto Natales (3 hours). From Puerto Natales, daily buses run to the park entrance (2.5 hours). Alternatively fly to El Calafate in Argentina and cross overland.

Can I see Perito Moreno Glacier from Torres del Paine? +

Not directly — Perito Moreno Glacier is in Argentina's Los Glaciares National Park, near El Calafate (about 5 hours from Puerto Natales). Many visitors combine Torres del Paine with Perito Moreno on the same trip by crossing the Argentina–Chile border.
