San Pedro de Atacama Itinerary 2026

Day-by-day plans for 3, 5, and 7 days — organised to make the most of your time.

Atacama Highlights — Salt Flats, Geysers & Stars

A tightly packed introduction covering the region's three signature experiences: salt lagoons, high-altitude geysers, and world-class stargazing.

Day 1 Arrive San Pedro → Valle de la Luna Sunset

Fly into Calama, transfer to San Pedro (1.5h), and rest to begin acclimatising. Late afternoon: Valle de la Luna for sunset over the dunes and salt ridges.

💡 Tip: Keep the first day low-key — altitude adjustment matters even at San Pedro's relatively modest 2,408m.
Day 2 Laguna Cejar & Salar de Atacama

Morning float in Laguna Cejar, then on to the Ojos del Salar sinkholes and Laguna Chaxa's flamingo reserve. Evening: guided astronomy tour under some of the clearest skies on Earth.

💡 Tip: Bring a swimsuit and a change of clothes for Laguna Cejar — you will want to rinse off the salt immediately afterward.
Day 3 El Tatio Geysers → Depart

Pre-dawn departure (around 4am) to reach El Tatio at 4,320m for peak geyser activity at sunrise. Return to San Pedro by late morning for a flight home via Calama.

💡 Tip: Dress in serious layers — pre-dawn temperatures at El Tatio regularly drop below freezing.
