The most famous beach day trip from Cartagena — a brilliant white sand beach on the Barú peninsula with crystalline turquoise water. Gets very crowded with day-trippers from 11am; arrive early by boat (7am departure) to have the best hours before the crowds arrive. Vendors are persistent but the setting is genuinely beautiful.

The coral has suffered bleaching in recent years but marine life — including turtles, rays, and tropical fish — remains excellent. Several islands have accommodation for overnight stays.
Little rain, lower humidity, and the most reliable beach weather. Christmas and New Year bring Brazilian tourists in numbers; reserve accommodation well ahead for December 24–January 8.
A secondary dry window — warm and mostly sunny. Less crowded than December–April and often better hotel rates.

Roughest seas of the year — day trips to the Rosario Islands may be cancelled. The city itself is fine; this only affects boat excursions.
