Getting To Iguazu Falls

Flights, overland routes, getting around locally, and visa requirements for 2026.

Flying To Iguazu Falls

The Argentine side is served by Cataratas del Iguazú Airport (IGR) in Puerto Iguazú, receiving daily flights from Buenos Aires (2h). The Brazilian side is served by Foz do Iguaçu Airport (IGU), receiving flights from São Paulo (2h) and Rio de Janeiro (2.5h). Most visitors fly to the Argentine side for the fuller experience.

  • Buenos Aires (AEP/EZE) → Puerto Iguazú: 2h direct (Aerolíneas Argentinas, LATAM, Flybondi)
  • São Paulo (GRU) → Foz do Iguaçu: 2h direct
  • Airport to town: 20min taxi (~$15 Argentine side)
💡 Tip: Book flights from Buenos Aires at least 3 months ahead during the July winter holiday peak — they sell out completely.

Getting Around Iguazu

Regular public buses run from Puerto Iguazú to the Argentine park entrance (30min, $2). To cross to the Brazilian side, passport is required — local buses cross the Tancredo Neves Bridge connecting the two cities. Most accommodations in Puerto Iguazú arrange transfers to both sides.

  • Bus Puerto Iguazú → Argentine park: every 30min from the terminal, ~$2
  • Border crossing to Brazil: bus from Argentine terminal to Brazilian side (~1h total including crossing)
  • Within Argentine park: ecological train runs to Devil's Throat (free with entry)
⚠️ Note: Citizens of USA, Canada, and Australia pay a visa fee (~$160 USD) to enter Brazil as a separate country — check if this applies to your passport before planning a Brazilian side visit.
