Salvador da Bahia Itinerary 2026

Day-by-day plans for 3, 5, and 7 days — organised to make the most of your time.

Salvador Essentials — Old Town, Food & Beaches

A balanced first visit covering the Pelourinho's history, Bahian food culture, and the city's best beaches.

Day 1 Arrive → Pelourinho Walking Tour

Settle in and spend the afternoon exploring the Pelourinho on foot — Church of São Francisco, Praça Terreiro de Jesus, and the painted colonial streets. Evening: catch a live capoeira circle in one of the main squares.

💡 Tip: Wear comfortable shoes — the Pelourinho's cobblestones and steep gradients are tougher than they look.
Day 2 Bahian Food & Mercado Modelo

Morning market visit and hands-on cooking class covering moqueca and acarajé. Afternoon free to explore Salvador's museums or rest before an evening out in Rio Vermelho.

💡 Tip: Order acarajé "com tudo" from a street stall at least once — the full toppings are worth the extra cost.
Day 3 Beach Day — Barra & Porto da Barra

A relaxed day at Porto da Barra beach, with a stop at the 17th-century Forte de Santo Antônio. Sunset from the fort walls is one of Salvador's best free experiences.

💡 Tip: Weekday afternoons are noticeably quieter at Porto da Barra than weekends.
Day 4 Free Morning → Depart

A final morning for any Pelourinho shops or churches you missed, before transferring to the airport for departure.

💡 Tip: Leave at least 2.5 hours for the airport transfer — Salvador's city traffic can be unpredictable.
