Flights, overland routes, getting around locally, and visa requirements for 2026.
Iquitos is the world's largest city unreachable by road — accessible only by river (3+ days from Lima by boat) or by air. LATAM, Avianca, and Star Perú operate daily flights from Lima (2h). Most lodge itineraries start with a flight from Lima to Iquitos followed by a speedboat transfer.
Manaus receives direct flights from São Paulo (4h), Rio de Janeiro (5h), and some international hubs. It serves as the gateway to the Brazilian Amazon for river boat journeys, floating lodge experiences, and the extraordinary Meeting of the Waters.
Malaria prophylaxis is recommended for most visitors to the Amazon basin — consult your doctor or travel health clinic 4–6 weeks before departure. Yellow fever vaccination is required to enter some Amazon regions and may be checked at airport immigration.
