Buenos Aires Itinerary 2026

Day-by-day plans for 3, 5, and 7 days — organised to make the most of your time.

Essential Buenos Aires

Four days covering the city's unmissable neighbourhoods, food, tango, and culture.

Day 1 San Telmo & La Boca

Start with the Sunday San Telmo market (if applicable) — antiques, crafts, and live tango. El Caminito street in La Boca for the famous painted houses and the Boca Juniors stadium. Lunch at a local parrilla in San Telmo. Evening: milonga at a traditional tango venue.

💡 Tip: La Boca's Caminito is fine by day with tourists around; don't wander the adjacent streets independently.
Day 2 Recoleta & Palermo

Morning: Recoleta Cemetery (guided tour). Lunch in the Palermo Soho café quarter. Afternoon: MALBA (Museum of Latin American Art) or the MNBA (National Fine Arts Museum — free). Evening: dinner at a Palermo restaurant followed by cocktails in the neighbourhood's wine bars.

💡 Tip: Book dinner at Don Julio parrilla weeks ahead; walk-ins are taken but waiting time is significant.
Day 3 City Architecture & Puerto Madero

Morning: Plaza de Mayo (Casa Rosada, Cathedral, Cabildo). Bookshop El Ateneo Grand Splendid — the world's most beautiful bookshop in a converted theatre. Afternoon: Puerto Madero waterfront walk. Evening: tango show at a traditional tablao.

💡 Tip: The tango show dinner packages at Piazzolla Tango or Café de los Angelitos are expensive but include dinner, a show, and a lesson.
Day 4 Day Trip: Tigre & the Delta

Take the Mitre line train (1h from Retiro) to Tigre — a riverside town at the mouth of the Paraná Delta. Explore the delta by launch boat, visiting the floating weekend houses of the Buenos Aires middle class, or kayak among the channels.

💡 Tip: The Tigre Art Museum (MAC) is in a beautiful Belle Époque building on the riverside — free and excellent.
