One of the most extraordinary natural sculptures on earth — marble formations carved by 6,000 years of wave action into caves, pillars, and arching cathedrals on the shore of Lake General Carrera (the second largest lake in South America). The turquoise-blue water reflects the marble in constantly changing light, creating a visual experience unlike anything else in Patagonia. A guided kayak tour from Puerto Río Tranquilo is the only way to enter the innermost caves and caverns, where the marble walls glow with reflected light. Morning is the best time — calmer water and the most intense blue.
